Hi, It's Paul from Tampa, Florida where the heat of summer is getting well under way.
I have been lurking for several months now, following the numerous messages posted here with interest. I have gotten some helpful ideas from them, thank you. But now I have two QQ for your knowlegeable list members here to field: Q 1) Is there any *quick and simple* method for resetting the modem / serial port WITHOUT completely shutting down the computer (restarting it as instructed never works), so as to be able to reconnect to AOL after it 'quits unexpectedly'? It would be useful and time saving to be able to just turn the modem off and wait 30 seconds or so, then back on again so a connection could be re-established -without having to wait through the entire shutdown and boot up cycle. (BTW, I don't have a choice in the matter of AOL as an ISP right now, so will have to stay with it.) Q 2) I have been told that, within about two more years, our Rev A iMac will become mostly obsolete for accessing the internet as progress(?) marches on! True our iMac is a tad slow by comparison, but I'm seldom in so much of a hurry to have that be a big problem. Still, if this obsolescence is to become an unavoidable reality which must be dealt with, what if anything, can I do to modify this machine to cope with new technologies on the web for a few years longer? I have investigated installing a faster chip, but the cost seems excessive. I really do prefer this old iMac with its drawer loading CD option and would prefer to keep it if it could be upgraded fairly simply! Is there a 'cheap chip joint' somewhere out there on the web where I can buy an enexpensive processing chip suitable for our iMac Rev A?
