Serial and Localtalk are not the same thing. There is a USB to serial adapter and an Ethernet to Localtalk Bridge.
Most Stylewriters and the Personal Laserwriter 300/LS are serial ONLY. That means you have to connect them directly to a machine with a serial port. The only way to network these printers is to connect them to a computer serially and then share the printer out (use the computer as a print server.) A usb to serial adapter would work for this application, but I would recommend one of those griffin adapters that plugs into the modem connector on the motherboard. They are hard to find, but I've heard good things about them. The 4/600 PS is localtalk only so an Ethernet bridge should work just fine. >From: John Teffer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (iMac List) >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (iMac List) >Subject: Re: SERIAL ADAPTER >Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 15:04:52 -0500 > > > From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > > I am searching for a serial to USB adapter that is compatible with my > > Laserwriters (300 and LS) and Stylewriters (II, 2400 and 2500) to use >with > > my iMac.
