After reading Jack's email about what software mother would be using, and
realizing I will have 3 spare printers that are OS 9 and no OS X printers to
give her, I decided that OS9 would be a better system for her. When I
explained this to her, she told me in no uncertain terms that she wanted the
best, we were going to Jaguar...even if it meant she had to buy a new printer
herself. (Way to go Mom!) She turned 74 this year. I'm so proud of her!

That would mostly depend on the software you're giving her? If most of

what you have is OS X compatible, then sure, it's a great OS for a

novice to learn from scratch. If most of your stuff is for OS 9 and

earlier then why not just put OS 9 on it. She doesn't have to learn two

OS's (X and Classic) and it will be easy for you to help her when she

calls with a problem.
