I'm on a Blueberry 400 DV.

I had AppleWorks 6, which was TERRIBLY slow when opening, closing, or saving
any files. Slow as in a 30 second wait. I thought it was a glitch of some
kind, but because I can't find the disk, could not correct it.

This weekend I downloaded the Apple update to 6.2.4. The good news is, I
can't believe how fast it does everything. In a click of the mouse, things
are opened, closed, and saved. I heartily recommend those with that same
delay to download this update. Technically, the 6.2.4 update determines
whether you're on OS 9 or X; it sends 6.2.3 to OS 9'ers and 6.2.4 to X'ers,
I think. All of a sudden, I love AppleWorks. I've used ClarisWorks since
'93, and can use most of its features in my sleep. Now it's nice to have
AppleWorks up-to-speed, literally.

The annoying news is: now, every time I save a file in Appleworks, it adds
a .cwk to the end of the file name. It looks windows-y. When you choose to
"save as," the save box of course opens. In the "title" box is printed:
untitled.cwk The "untitled" is highlighted, so when you begin to type, it
replaces the "untitled". However, the ".cwk" is NOT highlighted, so you
have to intentionally delete it if you don't want it as part of the name of
your file. Has anyone ever found a way to un-preference this "feature"?

Thanks,
Claire
