Hello again! I've downloaded the iMac Firmware updater 1.2 which covers 1.1 as well. I guess my Rev. D iMac didn't need that updater because I got a message saying that the firmware was not recognized and it could be due to newer firmware on the Mac. I shuddered as I brought my iMac in to the shop to see if they could fix it - knew it was going to slit my pocketbook. They plopped in a new HD, reinstalled the OS and everything work! Ho.ho.ho!!! Not sure what was wrong with the two HDs that I plopped in previously. The iMac must not have liked them, but at least one of them worked fine on my Performa 6400; I didn't try the other. In any case, all I had to pay for was a new HD (60GB was the smallest they had) and a basic service charge. Boy, was I glad the motherboard was ok. Has anyone had trouble booting their iMacs from a HD formatted using Mac OS Extended format? Does it make any difference? I might tinker with that the next time I get some free time. For now I'm content that the HD was the cause of my troubles. I'd like to thank all those who have taken time (I'm sure quite a bit of it too) trying to help me sort it out. I'll agree this is definitely one for the X-files. Thanks Guys! Regards, Kevin -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
