I think that you'll find that a lot of it depends on factors beyond the 
MHz and processor type. If you're running OS 9, the G3's sheer MHz 
speed is probably going to make the difference. Under OS X, the extra 
RAM and the AltiVec are probably going to make a significant 
difference. But don't forget the bus speed, HD speed, video card, and 
the specific tasks you're running. I mean, if you're running OS X on 
the G4 and OS 9 on the G3, frankly, you're probably going to find the 
G3 faster, but in large part that's because I find OS 9 generally 
faster at this point. YMMV.

Basically, I think you'll find a lot depends on factors beyond just the 
processor speed. Without more details, it's hard to call (at least for 
me).
