I have an Asante FriendlyNET FR3000 Series Cable/DSL Router working with
Comcast Internet service. I'm using an RCA cable modem. I think this
router is the same basic model as the original poster's. My set-up all
works fine. So I don't think it is the case that there is an inherent
problem with the Asante brand. In fact I picked Asante for my router
because they seemed to have the best Mac support at the time.

I was able to get my iMac and router working very easily when I installed
it. I just followed the instruction manual and things went smoothly.
However, after having the router for about a week, I tried to change some
setting through the web interface and somehow crashed the router. It took
me a few calls to Asante tech support to get it back up again. But I found
the Asante tech support people to be very helpful and patient. This was
about a year ago, so maybe things have gone downhill there since then. That
would be too bad. Eventually the answer was to jumper two pins in the back
of the router while powering it up, in effect shorting the pins to cause it
to do a hard reset. There are supposed to be easier ways to re-set (such as
powering off and powering on, but those did not work in my case). After
getting it re-set that time, it has worked flawlessly. So...

I would recommend trying to install the router again. Now that you have
your AT&T service working again, Asante tech support should be more helpful.
At least I sure hope so. Good luck!
Mike
