It is certainly possible. And if you have no serious disk problems, there should be no problem at all. I have done a number of upgrades from 8.x to 9.x without ever destroying any data by erasing any harddisk, like someone suggested.
When you install 9.2 select install Clean System Folder. You might have to push one of the buttons at the bottom of one of the dialogues to get to this option, I don't remember, but it is the best way to ensure that you will get through the upgrade without any hassles. Then if you want to take your old extensions and control panels with you, take them one by one (or group by group) from the old system folder (aptly named that way.) and restart each time. If starting up eventually fails, you know where it came from and can start up holding down the space bar and deselect those that were installed last in the extension manager that comes up. Wiping your harddisk is for PC-geeks, not for Mac Users.
