There's nothing to do, really. I would recommend the upgrade, you will 
get a much more stable system as a result.

It should simply be a matter of booting up from the 9.x CD, 
double-click the installer and follow the directions. Your files and 
programs will not be affected unless you deliberately choose to erase 
the hard drive first. Of course, before any major system upgrade you 
want to have a full backup of your existing files/system, just in case.

You would probably want to do what's called a "clean install" -- that 
is the new system folder does not erase the old one -- and then move 
some of your fonts and preferences back into the new one from the old 
one. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, most towns have 
a Mac expert around somewhere who can help. Check to see if your area 
has a Macintosh User Group.
