>>Jerry: My floppy drive is supposedly self-powered. What concerns me is that it seemed to not allow me to shutdown the computer. I selected shutdown from the Apple menu (OS X) as usual to shutdown and instead the screen went blue and the spinning disk appeared. The only choice I had was to unplug the iMac. So I have unplugged my VST SmartDisk floppy drive and am afraid that if I use it again I'll crash or something. I can't believe that using a USB peripheral means having to unplug it before shutting down every time, or does it? Is this a quirk with SmartDisk? Thanks, Donald<< --------------------------------- Don,
Sorry if I don't recall all the info from this thread, and possibly have some of it wrong... Did you install a SmartDisk driver? From the sounds of your symptoms, I would venture that you have an extension problem caused by that driver. Try removing (de-installing) it, then restart and try the SmartDisk without its special driver. Apple has included support for many peripherals like Zip drives and may possibly have included support for the SmartDisk; for example, you should not install the Zip driver for Zip drives. If this happens to work, let us know. Jerry -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
