As you have stated on a number of occasions that you are trying to use the drive under OS X, I cannot imagine why the Extensions Manager Control Panel was mentioned in the first place. As far as your floppy device is concerned, it should work fine providing that it is, as you state, "self-powered" and plugged in to one of the USB ports on the side of your iMac. Have you checked that the device is indeed receiving power through its mains lead? Are there any visual signs when it is disconnected from the iMac that it is receiving power? If that is indeed the case, then it should be drawing no excessive power from the iMac's USB port. Have you tried the device in both USB ports on the side of the iMac (in case one is defective)? It is not beyond the realms of possibility that you have a defective floppy drive - only a direct contact with the manufacturer's support staff will settle that issue. I don't think that you have mentioned at any point the actual version of OS X that you are running.
