microsoft being an "owner" of Apple is like those commercials you see on TV that state so-and-so is a 0.00017% owner of Motorola. In a deal in the mid-90's, MS invested some cash in Apple in exchange for some technology licenses (something to do with QuickTime, IIRC) and some non-voting stock.
