depends on how conspiracy-minded you are. the conventional wisdom most people place in the story is that MS never wanted the stock to begin with, and only bought the stock to allay any monopoly fears -- by buying the stock, one could argue that they're HELPING a competitor. Media and DoJ pundits might say, "If they're doing that, they couldn't be all that bad, right? Right?"
