Dear Dale Goodvin,

Thank you for contacting us.

To resolve the issue you are having you will need to update your modem
drivers.

A modem driver is a piece of software that allows your modem to work the
communication software on your computer. Modem manufacturers come out
with updated Software every 2-3 months generally, so we update the
drivers on the modems here whenever a new version of the driver software
comes out. If you don't update the software on your modem what will
eventually happen is that your modem will not be able to establish and
maintain a connection with our modems and eventually you wont be able to
connect at all. When your modem dials into us it hits our modems and
then attempts to negotiate a speed to transfer data back and forth with
our modem. When the drivers are too far out of date it is basically as
if our modems where speaking one dialect of Chinese and yours is
speaking another dialect. So while not all of the communication is lost,
the majority of the information is unrecognized. This is why the
connection will often drop when going from one web page to another or
when trying to download email. Think of it like the oil in your car.
Left unchanged your car will start to lose performance & eventually
won't even start anymore. In this scenario, your modem is about 6000
miles over your last oil change date :-)
