At least now I have a cheaper alternative should this one die. I wonder if being bootable in the iMac only works with certain brands of drives? I've always heard that PC CD-ROM drives aren't bootable, but perhaps only certain brands are...? Or was the fact that they weren't bootable just my confused imagination? On the other hand, I'm really considering buying the MCE CDRW. My current USB burner (Sony Spressa) doesn't work in OS X, and new ones that are compatible seem to sell in the $150-$200 range anyway, and my tax refund should be here in a few weeks... I don't currently own any DVDs or even a DVD player, so I don't have any use for a DVD/CD drive at this time. Perhaps in another couple of years, but not right now.
