You "could" run the iMac "headless".  I've been running one that way for
over a year now.  The rev A-D iMacs have a standard mac DB15 connector (15
holes in two rows).  You can buy a cheap VGA/SVGA monitor and connect it
with a cheap DB15-HD15 adapter (about $5 on ebay).  It just won't look too
pretty, you will need to leave the bottom plastic off.
