Thank you for making that clear. As I cc'd you privately, I left a word 
out of my response that had the effect of seeming harsher than I 
intended. I should have said IF you intend to let your daughter etc.

I apologise to you and anyone who read my post for leaving this out. It 
makes a difference in the tone I intended to convey.

It will surprise many on this list to learn that I feel very strongly 
the same way. CD prices and the current royalty compensation schemes 
are shocking and outrageous, and something really must be done. 
However, the solution to the problem is for the ARTISTS and CONSUMERS 
to lobby for legislative change, not to just steal copyrighted 
material. The problem is that many are doing the latter rather than the 
former, which motivates the RIAA to "dig in" and spend its resources 
fighting piracy rather than addressing the actual problem.

Happily, a number of my favourite artists are taking this route -- 
Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, and David Bowie among others.
