You can't do serious DTP with a wordprocessor like Appleworks, and if you make files you want to have professionally printed you'll have hassles and extra charges. I don't know of any shareware apps, but I'd advise you just look for a used older version of PageMaker. For instance currently there's PM5 on eBay (search for "pagemaker macintosh") at $5, with manuals.
