aaaah.... but the Rev B iMac, lacking an infrared port, was ALSO bondi blue.
the imacs are:
iMac 233MHz ("rev a" and bondi blue)
iMac 266MHz ("rev b" and bondi blue, no infrared)
iMac 333MHz (5-colors, but still tray loading... no bondi, but now a Blueberry)
iMac Slot Lodaing (5-colors, new slot load drive)
iMac Summer 2000 (IIRC, Sage, Indigo, Ruby, Snow, Graphite)
iMac Early 2001 (IIRC, Snow, Blue Dalmation, Flower Power)
iMac Summer 2001 (Snow, Graphite)
As you can see, colors tend to be re-used quite a bit. Graphite, for instance, was
used in most revisions of the iMacs with slot loading drives. This makes identifying
your iMac by color alone a little tedious, because no one knows if your Tangerine is
an iMac 333 or an iMac (Slot Loading). Or if your Graphite is an iMac (Slot Loading),
(Summer 2000), or (Summer 2001).
Or if your 14" iBook is an iBook (14" LCD), iBook (14" LCD 16VRAM), or an iBook (14"
LCD 32VRAM).
Why does all of this matter?
Say you ask me if you can hook up an external VGA monitor to your Tangerine iMac. This
isn't telling me enough to answer the question, and causes confusion on the list when
8 people all chime in with contradictory information.
For instance the tangerine iMac 333 doesn't have a VGA port, but the tangerine iMac
(Slot Loading) does. Apple only supports 128MB RAM in the tangerine iMac 333 (though
more usually will work). Apple supports 512MB in the iMac (Slot Loading) (again, more
usually works, but that's besides the point). One takes SO-DIMMs, the other takes
DIMMs. NONE of the parts between the two are interchangeable - despite similar outward
appearance, they are two completely different machines.
All this, and more, is why I stick to official Apple product names.
