It's primarily a data transfer system. It can be measured, however, it 
takes some pretty specialized test equipment. Go to the 
http://www.usb.org site (developers) section for more information than 
you ever wanted to know. The nominal bus power provided is 500 
milliamp. If a device requires more power it will have an external 
power supply.

Just as there are multiple versions of firewire there are now multiple 
versions of USB.
