Apple System Profiler can give you the info for each USB device you have connected, including power requirements. The max for each port is 500mA. You'll need a powered hub if you have more devices than your system can provide power for. I've gotten the impression from somewhere (this list, I think) that the OS will inform you if you have a USB port overloaded.
