I'd like to purchase a Mac/PC cross-platform-compatible (with software for both) scanner.
Firewire connectivity is out of the question (and probably overkill, anyway), since my iMac 350 Indigo doesn't have Firewire. Have been looking seriously at Canon LiDE 30, but find myself concerned that every review I read says something along the lines of "slow. Slow. Oh yes, Slow. And did I forget to mention, SLOW!!!?!?!" I'm really only looking for something I can use to spearhead a home geneaology project and would like to spend $150 or less. Have recently seen Epson 1250 (usb 1.1) for $50 with a $30 MIR. I'm usually someone who says grudgingly that "you get what you pay for" -- at least with hardware. I know this is last years model... hence the discount. I seem to remember reading good things about this scanner.. but the problem is that the longer you look, I'm not quite sure what I've looked at, after all. Any suggestions?
