>> > P.s. Please no flaming on my decision to install the largest drive in > a non-mac PC. The only consideration is to remember the your Summer 2000 iMac has no cooling fan. The new HD wants to be thermally friendly. Some of the faster HD's generate a lot of heat. Look for a replacement HD with comparable thermal characteristics to the OEM HD. (Most manufacturers have thermal operating temperatures on their web sites) << -------------------- You're not going to have any heat related problems with the 40 GB drive, and you wouldn't have any with the 120 either. Check http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ for reports on use of 120GB drives in fanless iMacs. No reported problems.
