I agree. If you can only afford a single book David Pogue's Missing 
Manual is the one to start with.

A very good book. "Mac OS X Bible, Jaguar Edition" is another good 
resource and I also like O'Reilly's "Max OS X In A Nutshell".

Lots of good books out there, but "OS X, The Missing Manual" is a great 
place to start.
