Hi all: My iMac DV (summer 2000) seems to be running a bit hot these days, even though I have it in a well ventilated room. The top of the machine is incredibly warm after extended use, and while I haven't taken any temperature measurements, it seems to be running warmer than it used to when new. Granted, I moved from a mild Midwestern climate in St. Louis to a more humid climate in South Carolina this past year, and the change in physical climate is most likely the culprit.
Since the iMac DV is convection cooled and thus has no internal fan, what is the likelihood that an external fan, pointed in the right direction, would help cool the computer? My local (gee, seems kinda goofy to call them local because they're so damn ubiquitous) Walmart has USB-powered mini-clamp fans on sale for under $5. Could I use one or two of these to keep the iMac cool while its running? Would it help? If so, which vents on the back of the iMac are for are intake and which are for outflow? Thanks for the help!
