I have a '99 DV SE and it gets very warm on top as well. Remember, it draws air
in from the bottom and vents out the top, as such it will be quit hot up top.
Just make sure it has lots of breathing room. Having said that what I have done
in the past is have a 6" table fan setup about 3' away and blowing across the
top of the iMac to help increase the convection rate. It does seem to lower the
cpu temp about 5 degrees.
