Methinks the guy is full of it, and may only marginally know what he was 
doing (computer-wise). Most videographers worth their salt could at least 
make it a Video CD format (which your Mac could read, BTW), and if they 
had better or newer Wintel equipment, should be able (with perhaps more 
difficulty than with the Mac... ;-)  be able to burn the DVD in a 
standard format, as Esver pointed out.
