Yes. They are, IIRC, two *different* types of RAM. The "internal" one uses a PC100 (or PC133) CL2-2-2 SDRAM DIMM. The "external" slot (the one users can easily get at) uses a 144pin PC100 *SO-DIMM* (aka "notebook RAM").
