Thanks for the advice, I moved the iMac, and now the screen has gone back to normal.  
I still need to know what's going on with my modem.  Why will my computer not 
recognize it, even though I now have a new modem card?  Finally, It looks like there 
is no way i'm going to be able to fix my DVD ROM drive.  Will my 400 mHz graphite iMac 
be able to work with a 6xDVD / 24xCDROM Slot-load drive?
