Thank you, Mary and Marc for your replies. However, this machine has OS 9.1 on it, and doesn't have any version of OSX on it. Any other thoughts?
[Note: The fact that a machine "doesn't have any version of OS X on it" is not evidence that it is not suffering from a failed OS X upgrade. I'd rather hear you say that you know no such upgrade was attempted.]
Just one more thing from me. Try changing the screen resolution (including "non-recommended" choices). (And, of course, rule out the obvious, which is the brightness/contrast settings.)
After that, I guess it's a case of connecting to a different monitor to test the "defective PAV board" theory.
