* manually run Cron scripts

OS X runs these at scheduled times/dates unless it is shut down.

For the 1,343rd time, this is NOT TRUE. Cron scripts only run if the machine is AWAKE at the scheduled time. Now, if you're me and you're routinely up and running at 3am-4am or whatever the time is, then it's no problem. But if you're like most people, your computer is ASLEEP at that time. Sleeping computers DO NOT run the scripts. Repeat that last sentence till it gets through.

* repair file and folder permissions

the new "rebuild desktop/reset PRAM" panacea. I've NEVER seen it help, but others seem to think it solves a plethora of ills.

I've personally seen it solve a plethora of (small) ills. It's not something that needs to be done all that often, but once a month or so certainly doesn't hurt.

* force empty trash

Not possible through the GUI otherwise

BatCHMod can do this through a GUI.

* recreate alias to Mac OS 9 desktop

?? not sure why that is needed

People accidentally delete this all the time. I don't know why either.

* easily optimize your system using Auto Pilot

?? Not sure what that means.

Both Cocktail and Onyx have a section in their interface where you can check (or uncheck) a few boxes to customise a "big run," ie either program will automatcially repair permissions, run cron scripts, delete caches and then restart the machine for you in a single go rather than you having to do each step individually. I recommend it, you just run the Auto Pilot (or "Pilot" as it's referred to by Cocktail) and walk away from the machine for 10-15 minutes (you can do it!) and voila, everything's healthier.
