Dale: I�ve got a Epson Stylus 740i (essentially a 740 with translucent plastics). Granted, I�m still running OS 9.2.2, so the Print Center problems don�t affect me. But, if you�re paying $30 for ink cartridges, you�re getting ripped off. DON�T BUY EPSON-BRANDED INK CARTRIDGES!! (sorry about the shouting there, but I need to stress the point).
Printer makers sell the printers cheap and price the ink high, and then warn you not to use any other brand ink in the printer with false threats of dire consequences. But third-party and after-market ink can be just as good as the Epson-branded stuff, as long as you shop with a reputable dealer. I�ve dealt with both Ink4art.com and Inkjet Madness, and found their inks to be just as good as Epson�s. I�ve also heard good things about Ink Daddy. I don�t pay more than $4-$5 per cartridge for black or color. The last time I bought ink, I bought a 6-pack of black carts from Ink4art for roughly $24, shipped. They�re not Epson OEM, but they work well, haven�t leaked, and haven�t clogged the printer�s print heads. Most reputable ink-selling firms will also sell cleaning carts, which flush your print heads and keep things squeaky clean. I don�t print all that much, so I�ve only run them twice since I�ve had the printer (July of 2000). Try <http://www.inkfinder.com> to find the cheapest available price for your Epson cartridges. You can find other ink-jet printer carts listed there from Canon, Epson, HP, Lexmark, and Apple (anyone still running a StyleWriter II like me?). Good luck, Matt -- Matthew W.
