Is there a way to see what is using RAM at any given moment? For the past two-three weeks, I've had the type of sluggishness that I think is from maxed-out RAM. I also occasionally get a prompt telling me that I can't perform this or that because memory is low. Right now I am unable to print a document because "memory is low." That's after restarting and trying to print that one document. I printed it a month ago without a problem.
I have 1 GB of RAM in an iMac 400 DV. The 10 GB HD is half filled.
Claire, what OS are you using? (I'm guessing that you are not using X. The link provided by Jim Dynes is for downloading the app, Memory Usage Getter, which only works in X.)
With your gig of RAM, it is almost certain that your current problems are not a result of RAM shortage.
So, what OS? Size of document that you are trying to print? Printing from what application? What make/model of printer?
