Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I'll quote them and then respond.

Regarding Mary's post, I'm using 9.2.2. Printing a 2.5 MB PageMaker 5
document on an hp LaserJet 1200 series. August's newspaper was 2.8 MB, and
printed smoothly. So was June/July's, and May's, and April's issue.
March, though, had the same problem as this September issue. I have no idea
what I did "right" to get four issues in a row to work.

The way I worked around it this month (since I did have a deadline) was to
send the document to my inkjet printer. Then I pasted in the August issue
(which had printed right) the photos, clip art, and other graphics from the
September issue (which didn't want to work). I inserted a little at a time,
PS Grouping each addition and printing it quickly as I held my breath. Then
I literally cut and pasted the laser photos, clip art, etc. onto the
inkjet-ed pages. I used a roll of double stick tape but it worked.

I know it sounds like a PageMaker issue, but I'm working this from all
angles until I solve the problem. I am aware of an issue between PageMaker
6.5 and OS 9 involving aldtmp files. I've found a few aldtmp files and
deleted them, but the problem hasn't corrected itself.

Also, the prompts regarding low memory happen randomly in other programs as
well.

I opened the offending PageMaker document, then went to "About this
computer." It shows to be using a little section that is 498 MB in size.
Nothing else unusual appears to be using RAM.

I haven't tried this yet. I will tomorrow morning.

I did run DiskWarrior. Also, there's nothing in the printer's queue, if
that's what you mean. I'm not aware of another queue. Also, I get low
memory warnings and/or general sluggishness randomly when I'm not printing
as well. I also am able to print just fine sometimes.

Thanks so far for your input. I am on the borderline of installing OS X
onto my internal HD, and going with the OS 9 apps in classic. It's just
hard to take the plunge. Maybe that would solve everything...

Thanks,
Claire
