I read with great interest the issue you've just discussed.

I have just bought an iMac with a monitor "damaged by
the magnet from a speaker", but having read your mails
I have a feeling that this could be the case with my iMac
as well.

I can run the iMac with an external monitor so the heywire
screen is not a problem, but what should I do ?

Reformat and install 9.1 ?

And then uplade the FirmWare to 4.1.9 ?
