I installed Jaguar on my Daughters 500 MHz DV SE iMac this week....with
no trouble at all. I updated the firmware using the 4.1.9 Firmware
Update off the Jaguar CD.

I got a call from a buddy with OS 9.2 on a 350 MHz Slot-loading iMac. He
tried to start up off the Jaguar CD last week without updating the
firmware. Then he read horror stories about others who had done the same
thing.

Big mistake

First his video went wonky, curved in on the sides, and then it went
really dark, as in black screen. disassembly and replacement of battery
and hard drive didn't help. CUDA & Pram Zap ditto.

The only way to get a consistant Desktop was to put the iMac to
sleep.......and then hit the Space Bar right away to wake it up.

Removing all but one DIMM got us to a temporary desktop (still very
dark, off to the left of the monitor, and running 640 X 480 at 117 MHz
according to the Monitors CDEV) which allowed us to do a clean install
of OS9.1 and delete the 9.2.

Then we ran the Firmware update off the Jaguar CD again and it actually
WORKED.

Graph appeared showing progress and then message "Firmware successfully
upgraded" appeared.

Then the iMac returned to absolute 100% normal.

Never sell anything on eBay or the internet for more than you are asking
for it. There has been a sudden recent rash of high-ticket items bought
all over the US and Canada and with literally thousands of really
high-quality counterfeit cashiers cheques drawn on American banks but
sent from NIGERIA with an explanation that the cheque is to be deposited
and the excess money sent to a third party as soon as the cheque
clears. The full face value of the bogus cheque actually DOES appear in
the depositor's account within a week (for most US bank accounts) but
about a month later, when the bogus cheque finally arrives back from the
bank it is drawn on, the full amount of the counterfeit cheque becomes
the problem of the depositor. By that time the excess funds have been
sent to West Africa and are irretrievably lost. Bank fraud is the third
largest source of hard currency for NIGERIA and North American
individuals are their prey of choice.
