Yes. On the slot loading (Summer 2001 and iMacDV models) it sure does.
There is a BIG FAT warning in the "Read Me" file on the Jaguar install CD
that no one reads.

----------- Begin Common (weekly) Dialogue in tech shop ---------------

Me, "Hi there, what seems to be the problem with your iMac?"

Customer, "my iMac is dead."

Me, "What happened?"

Customer, "Nothing...it just won't start up."

Me, "Did you install anything of have a lightning strike or anything???"

Customer, "Well, It seems that after I installed 10.2 my unit was black."

I Respond, "Oh, so you DID install something. Let me ask you...did you
update the firmware like the installer instructed you to in the read me
file?"

They usually say... "What Read Me file?" "What's firmware?"

Then I say, "It will cost you $99.99 and I will have your machine ready for
you in a couple of days *if* it is saveable."

----------- End Common (weekly) Dialogue in tech shop ---------------

If they hit the CUDA or restarted the machine a bunch of times the only way
to save it is to place the Logic Board into a different unit (of the exact
same model) and update the firmware in OS 9. DO NOT go hitting the CUDA
button anytime you feel like it. And if you do feel the need to hit it then
press it in ONCE and hold it for a few seconds and release. DO NOT hit it
repeatedly.
