iMac 350 MHz SL: I replaced the original 6 GB with a Fujitsu 20 GB that was
very quiet but lasted only 5 months before getting the infamous clicks of
death. To their credit, Fujitsu speed expressed me a new hard drive within
four working days, but the noise of the new one was horrendous. I
reinstalled the 6 GB, and realised that, as loud as the replacement was,
the Fujitsu was still quieter than the Maxtor and put it back in the
computer. The noise grew week by week :-( I literally could not hear
myself think, and spent as little time at the computer as possible. And
yes, I empathise with the headaches!!!!!

I researched and went with a [large nasty carnivorous fish] Barracuda 120
GB 7200 RPM replacement. The only regret, besides the credit card bill, is
... well, it's now Saturday morning and I vaguely remember sitting down in
front of the iMac for just a few minutes, and that was last weekend. No
irritating noise to force me away from the screen. Maybe it's time to get
another dog.

Pete.
