OK, I haven't seen any replies to this, so I'll lend what little knowledge I have.

Next, I've heard bad things of OS 9.0 as well- get up to OS 9.1 if you can.
APperently, OS 9, while being the pinacle of the classic OS's had many problems with
it. I wouldn't erally know, even though I have OS 9.1 installed on my hobby computer
and don't have any problems, and also on my iMac 400 DV SE, but OS X is the primary on
that last one (other OS installed on it is OS 9.2.1)
Downloading the 8.6 update shouldn't be a problem- I downloaded it onto a Windows ME
machine and burned it to CD, and upgraded my Powerbook that way with no difficulty.
Just keep in mind that the files you DL will be in a compressed form which you can
open easily enough, it'll just be a couple extra steps.
Why don't you have a bootable copy of the OS 9 cd? I didn't know they came any other
way.
In anyevent, if you still want OS 9, you might be best off to perform a clean
installation. I believe in OS 9 you have to select "options" to use this feature in
the intstallation program. Otherwise, it will be right there for you. In either
case, keep your eyes peeled as you go through the install program prompts, you'll see
what you need. Clean install means just that- it doesn't screw with the original
system, it simply replaces it, and leaves the original system in a folder on your HD
that is easy to dispose of.
