I think the main hurdle for you is to get everything digitized. Once that
happens, you will never go back to (physical) slides. I know some
progressive professors that have hundreds of thousands of images on their HD
in which they can access instantly for their next lecture.

You don't have to use Powerpoint for slides, you can use Adobe Acrobat, or
Macromedia's Flash software. These are actually far superior and allows you
to be more creative with your slides/digital images.

My wife and I made a slideshow of our childhood for our wedding reception
using Acrobat. It looked much better than powerpoint and was able to e-mail
copies to friends.

Personally, I'm not at all sad to see slide projectors gone from everyday
use. Why? Because the digital alternative is cheaper, more efficient, and
leaves you with more option for sharing your library.
