"You can't belong to the NY Personal Computer Users Group, you have a Macintosh" was what one new Mac user heard back in 1988 (Karen Sperling, now an expert in teaching use of Painter).
Isn't this ridiculous? Did IBM/Microsoft capture the personal computer label by default? To my thinking, the Mac is as much a pc as anything made to run Windoze.
Right? Wrong?
Actually, the first IBMs "pc"s WERE called PCs: Personal Computer, and "PC Jr." The clones were then marketed as "IBM PC compatible" and from there people thought of them when they heard the terms "PC" and "Personal Computer". This is even though ALL small computers are "pc" including my Apple IIc
