Is it possible in OS X 10.2.8 (like in OS 8/9) to do a "Get Info" on a folder and find out how many items it contains?
Um, you can open the folder... It will tell you how many items are in it. Visible, any way.
The item "allen" contains one or more items you cannot read. Do you want to copy the items you can read? Stop Continue
Why can't they be read?
As you become more familiar with OS X you'll become aware of the concept of permissions. It's a UNIX thing. It's now an OS X thing. Searching out some info on permissions in general will help.
You cannot copy the item "NetscapeMozillaTrunkMacOSX2003100716" because the name is too long or includes characters that the disk cannot display. OK
Can I assume the Bondi you're backing up is using OS 9 or earlier? You may be familiar with the 32 (it is 32, right?) character naming limit in the classic Mac OS. There're also a few forbidden naming conventions, albeit at the moment I can't recall all of them. (The forbidden names are different in OS 9 & X, of course). Not having done it, I can't tell you whether OS 9 is willing truncate names that are too long or simply reject them.
Good luck. You'll pick all this up as you make the transition. We hope ;-p
Cheers, Rich
