List server response time

I'm in the process of changing ISPs and following the instructions on 
the lowendmac website, I sent an email to subscribe my new address to 
this list. How long does it take the server to reply? Or is the 
subscription process not automated and I have to wait until Dan can 
wade through the ton of email he probably gets every day? Another 
question is if a blank email to the listserver is sufficient; the 
website just says send an email from the address you wish to 
subscribe. Nothing about anything having to be in either the subject 
or body areas of the email
