Yes, this would most probably screw up your DSL as they both use roughly 
the same technology to communicate with their hosts.

The water company's meter communicates back to its host on a different 
frequency then your phone line. This enables them to use the line at the 
same time without interfering with your phone service.

DSL does the exact same thing. So it doesn't surprise me to hear that it 
screws up the DSL.


I would talk to your DSL provider, and let them know that you have this 
water meter device on the line. I'm sure they must have run into this 
before, and they should be able to tell you what your options are.
