We hooked up DSL service to our iMac in the center of town in a small office.
Everything went well...except the box doesn't show a DSL light and the browser can't communicate.
The two providers--AT&T and VErizon--blamed each other at first and finally decided that the problem is that there's another "service" on the line that fights the DSL.
BUT, there are no services--like Call Waiting--on this line.

The only other thing is that the water company uses the phone line to get readings from our meter. Could that possibly be the source of the problem? If so, is there anyway to overcome it?

If the meter reading hardware doesn't have a DSL filter in line with it it will block the DSL signal. Your local line provider should be aware of this and have corrected it.
