Hi!
You people sit around and crow how good a mac is over anything else on the
planet. I think that my Graphite imac is a piece of junk. It has all the
problems of any other computer, with the added fact that it cost more then
people should pay for a good computer. I think that the slogan should be
macs are junk.

Subject: I've been thinking...is that burnt rubber I smell???

> I've posted regarding this before if this sounds at all familiar...
> Here's what I have: a 1.2 GHZ Compaq with WIN ME, a graphite iMac DVSE
with OS X 10.1.5 at 400 mHz, a Powermac 7500 (tinkered with and upgraded to
DP 200 mHz 604e) that I use solely for upgrading and playing around with,
and finally a Powerbook 1400c/166 that's maxed out with ram, which I use to
stay mobile (for the most part).
> Here's the deal: I have been waiting for a rather substantial check (over
$8000) to come, which it hasn't yet. I was planning on using some of that
money to buy a brand spanking new iBook, since my little powerbook doesn't
do everything I need it to. What might that be? Well, I need USB so I can
sync my Palm 125 more regularly, better battery life, since I've gotten to a
point where I need battery power for over 2 hours at a time now, would love
to watch DVDs on the go, run on OS X on the go (although I do love OS 8.6),
etc, etc.
> Here's the "problem": I'm sure that I'd be able to get at least a couple
hundred for the PB and all that I have for it (extra drives, original system
CD, blah blah), as long as I can bring myself to part with it. As time goes
on I become more and more attached to that little book, thus creating a
problem while I wait for my check to arrive.
> Then there's the iMac. What do I do with it? I've posted a couple times
on here about its issues, namely it's inability to get on the internet since
it refuses to recognize it's internal modem. Yes, I know that I can use the
internet via the ethernet connection on broadband, but that is not an option
right now, and I don't know when it will become one. I assume that since
I've tried more than one internal modem, that this is a logic board issue,
and can only be fixed by replacing the board, am I wrong?
> So let's just assume, for a moment, that I don't want to buy an entirely
new board to install just so I can sell it for a better price. What do I do
with this little puppy? it seems to work fine, except if you count windows
ME playing it's stupid "I'd rather be completely alone than recognize a Mac"
thing. I doubt that anyone is going to pay me as much for a computer with
known problems, nor should they, but while I do plan on using the big check
to pay for my new 'book, I want to use as little as possible of that money,
so I can put more into savings. That make sense? I hope so, cuz I'd hate
to have to admit that I'm stark raving stupid(or mad).
> I suppose there are other things I could do with it, but would it really
be worth just keeping around?
> Any suggestions/advice?
