Re: strange noise issue

Mine makes what sound like a miniature human sigh about every 10 
minutes or so and has done it since new. I assume it is either the HD 
parking or fan spooling up/down.

Could be that other machines make the same sound, but because they have 
a lot of other noise going on that you never hear this particular one.

Either way it's never bothered me.
