I think some people misbelieve that large drives must be partitioned because of older out of date knowledge.
In days gone, it may have been neccessary to partition a hard drive. Some systems simply couldn't access drives over a certain size. It was a logical limit,

and so could be gotten around by partitioning the drive into multiple smaller drives that the machine could then see each one.
No, partitioning won't overcome the limitation reffed above.
Also, some systems had particular limits to where the boot info had to be on a drive (for instance the Rev A iMac can't boot from an OS placed past the first 8 gig on a drive,
Well, the 8 Gig limit that affects the Rev A and other Macs only applies to the location of OS X, right?
