That's > exactly how I did it awhile back. But definitely do it. I was unaware of the issue until I tried installing Jaguar on a used iMac slot-loader I picked up and was setting up for a friend. Fortunately for me the screen died slowly but it was still a puzzle to fix; took me a day and a half of research but I got it fixed. Many forum messages I read spoke of a total loss of the screen and many backdoor approaches to get it done.
