For some weird reason, appleworks on our flatpanel iMac keeps crashing. Not consistently, or at certain times or levels of activity, but as often as once a day. I just downloaded and installed the latest update, hoping that would stabilize the little beast, but it crashed again last night while my wife was working on an important database.
Any help, suggestions, fixes?
The following should be considered Standard Operating Procedure for any problem like this one:
1. Locate the .plist preference file and throw it away. Restart application. If that doesn't work:
2. Repair permissions on the drive. If that doesn't work:
3. Create a new "virgin" user account (no third party stuff etc). If the problem goes away, then you know your system (and the app) is fine and there's something in your user folder (probably a bad font or third-party haxie) giving it fits. If the problem DOESN'T go away:
4. Remove all traces of the problem program and reinstall it into the "virgin" user account. If THAT doesn't work:
5. Run your disk utility of choice (recommended: DW3.01 or TTP 4). If that doesn't solve the problem:
6. Make a backup of your system, then install a "clean" system folder WITHOUT your old settings (does not destroy the old folder, just renames it). If THAT doesn't resolve the problem, then at that point I'd take the machine in for a service call.
